Brochures and pamphlets are important formats in consumer health libraries. These publications provide medical information in a condensed, non-threatening, understandable manner. Ordering brochures and pamphlets is a complex operation that requires a periodic review of the inventory, estimating quantities needed, and contacting a large number of suppliers and publishers to order the publications. Librarians who responded to a survey complained that this is a tedious, time-consuming process, and their inventories suffer chronic shortages. The Patient Education Resource Center at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center created an automated system to streamline and simplify the brochure ordering process. The system helps the institution take advantage of bulk discounts and prevent inventory shortages. |
