  Budgeting for Hospital Librarians

Title: Budgeting for Hospital Librarians
Author: Cooper, Jack
Goldstein, Joel
Jackson, Deborah
Appeared in: Journal of hospital librarianship
Paging: Volume 3 (2003) nr. 1 pages 27-36
Year: 2003-01-01
Contents: Library budgets are seen as areas for hospital CEOs and CFOs to reduce funding since many costs are not reimbursable. Senior management often expects all hospital departments to partially fund themselves or to self-fund. The library is not exempt. Hospital library budgets need a philosophy that reflects the overall organizational goals that have been set forth by the Board of Directors. Realistic goals and objectives should be developed by formulating a business plan. Successful budgets are comprehensive, clear in direction, and well organized. It is important that the budget be explained to and understood by all members of the hospital library staff and senior management.
