Environmentally responsible tourism, especially on high mountains, will be improved if guidelines are available that help manage a tourism asset and suggest a certain behavior for the parties involved. Archival research concerning the Himalayas, the Antarctic and the Sub-Antarctic Islands and field observations served as the basis for Mt. Aconcagua's guidelines. Two of the co-authors climbed Mt. Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Andes. Guidelines were established for the Argentine government, tour operators and mountain guides, and for climbers. |
