Author: Shafer, Elwood L.
Vieregge, Michael
Choi, Youngsoo
Appeared in: International journal of hospitality and tourism administration
Paging: Volume 6 (2005) nr. 3 pages 65-88
Year: 2005-11-29
Contents: This study identifies preferred leadership qualities of hospitality students from Hong Kong, India, the People's Republic of China and Taiwan, and compares them with those of hospitality students from the U.S. All students were enrolled in English-speaking hospitality programs in Switzerland. Following the theories of Hofstede (1995) and Trompenaars (1994), the study tested whether the students in each group prefer certain leadership attributes, and whether differences in preferences exist among the five groups. The results of this study provide tourism and hospitality organizations with practical suggestions for improving the selection of both entry-level and upper-level managers and leaders, so as to increase organizational effectiveness and efficiency within culturally diverse operations and environments.
