We here suggest that the proposed modifications to the APA's Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct will be of minimal consequence to the practice of forensic psychology. Our primary rationale for this position is that principles cannot regulate how professional standards are established or maintained. Instead, it is the responsibility of educational institutions to effectively train psychologists so that the field can regulate itself. We also suggest that educating the general public is essential to regulating the inappropriate dissemination of non-scientifically supported information. |
