This article addresses some of the problems inherent both in traditional didactic science teaching and in approaches based on theories of conceptual change. The author argues that the twin pitfalls of exclusion from science education and assimilation into a culture of compliance can be avoided by helping students to acquire a better understanding of science (through an anthropological approach) and a better understanding of themselves as learners and as science initiates. |
