It Takes More Than a Village

Title: It Takes More Than a Village
Author: Ott, Jeffrey L.
Appeared in: Information security journal
Paging: Volume 9 (2001) nr. 6 pages 1-3
Year: 2001-01-01
Contents: Information management is a crazy business. Throughout time, man has hoarded and jealously guarded knowledge. For the privileged few, knowledge was power. The ancient Aztec priests were able to control their civilization through their knowledge of weather, solar eclipses, and other celestial events. The Egyptians used their knowledge of the ebb and flow of the mighty Nile to cultivate crops. Religious institutions have used knowledge to control the masses. Feudal lords were able to maintain control of their peon labor through fear of God and promises of a better after-life. No matter who was the first to recognize that knowledge is power, information management has been around as long as man.
