Hospitality Uses Art in Its Marketing Strategy

Title: Hospitality Uses Art in Its Marketing Strategy
Author: Nicholls, J. A. F.
Roslow, Sydney
Walter, Gary A.
Appeared in: Journal of hospitality marketing & management
Paging: Volume 1 (1993) nr. 4 pages 117-126
Year: 1993-09-01
Contents: There is empirical evidence that the hospitality industry is utilizing art in promotin its business. Artists, however, are generally unaware of the marketing applications of their creations. This paper examines the notion that creative artists produce works for their own satisfaction and not necessarily for the benefit of customers. Through a survey of painters, it was found that these artists were motivated by their own internal needs for self-expression, rather than by profit. Artists relied on their agents and/or art galleries to promote their paintings. Therefore the hospitality industry should be in touch with galleries and agents through which the art product is delivered to the potential purchaser.
