Personality Correlates of the Novelty Seeking Drive

Title: Personality Correlates of the Novelty Seeking Drive
Author: Crotts, John C.
Appeared in: Journal of hospitality marketing & management
Paging: Volume 1 (1993) nr. 3 pages 7-29
Year: 1993-06-11
Contents: This study explored the individual differences of people in an effort to explain their attitudes and behaviors towards vacationing. The analysis assumed that people find the incongruity associated with vacations interesting and will seek out settings that offer the desired level of novelty. Such an orientation towards novelty was presumed most likely among people who are nondogmatic (Rokeach 1960) and have a high need for cognition (Cacioppo & Petty 1982). Drawing from residents of two communities, the data, as operationalized, revealed findings consistent with the view that vacation decisions, in part, are simultaneously channeled between individuals' conflicting needs for psychological security and novelty.
