The 14C activity of six shell samples of marine molluscs, collected alive around the coast of Iceland between 1898 and 1939, was measured in order to study the marine reservoir effect. The measured activities correspond to 14C ages B. P. of between 440 ± 34 and 505 ± 35 years (13C-corrected to -25% in the PDB scale for isotopic fractionation). Corrections were made for the variations in 14C activity during the last 100 years. The six reservoir age values vary between 330 ± 40 and 395 ± 40 years with a weighed mean value of 365 ± 20 years. |
