The fundamental core of globalization is international integration. The integration of emerging economies has critical consequences for the global economy, in general, and for the emerging economies, in particular. This paper is focused on India. The context of this focus is the Asian financial crisis. It briefly discusses the liberalization of the Indian economy and considers the consequences of its de-insulation as Southeast Asia (primarily the Asian-4) experienced economic turmoil. The causes of its origin, in real and theoretical terms, and its effects, in real and strategic terms, are examined. Implications for the Indian economy and business strategies are evaluated. |
