Title: Somatic Embryogenesis in Lavender Tissue Culture: II. Influence of Medium Composition and Gamma Irradiation on Embryo Development
Author: Onisei, Tatiana

Appeared in: Journal of herbs, spices & medicinal plants
Paging: Volume 6 (1999) nr. 3 pages 89-99
Year: 1999-09-17
Contents: Somatic embryo development in tissue culture of Lavandula angustifolia Mill, was promoted using selected mineral salt concentrations, growth regulator concentrations and ratios, carbon sources, and charcoal supplements. The best conditions for embryo differentiation of lavender consisted of an OM basal medium supplemented with 4 percent glucose and 0.5 to 1 mg/liter IBA or zeatin riboside together with charcoal (1.5 g/l). Treatment of embryogenic callus with γ-rays (10 Gy) improved embryo conversion into lavender plants. Callus growth rate was inhibited by 60 Gy, a dose that produced large necrotic areas.
