Maltreated elderly who refuse help face a triple threat-being aged, abused or neglected, and isolated from services. This article describes a study which examined the correlates of refusing services among maltreated elderly. Results indicated that the sex of the perpetrator and the victim's disabling characteristics were associated with the action taken by the elder regarding the offer of services. These findings suggest that we need to examine more carefully the dynamics of victim-perpetrator relationships and the types of services offered to both victims and perpetrators. |
