The following biographical article on the first (and, to date, only) woman member of the Federal Communications Commission is the result of a study, financed in large part by a grant from the Research Screening Committee of Western Michigan University. This grant enabled the author to examine Frieda Hennock's personal papers, which had been given to Radcliffe College by her husband, Mr. William H. Simons of Washington, D.C. The author is appreciative of the permission granted by the Women's Archives of the Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe to utilize materials from the Hennock papers. An earlier grant from Bowling Green State University also contributed to this study, which has grown in scope and depth in a number of stages from a eulogy prepared after Miss Hennock's death in 1960. |
