Gradient Changes in Water Quality During Low Flows in Run-of-the-River and Reservoir Impoundments, Lower Snake River, Idaho

Titel: Gradient Changes in Water Quality During Low Flows in Run-of-the-River and Reservoir Impoundments, Lower Snake River, Idaho
Auteur: Worth, Dewey F.
Verschenen in: Lake and reservoir management
Paginering: Jaargang 11 (1995) nr. 3 pagina's 217-224
Jaar: 1995-12-01
Inhoud: A synoptic study of water quality within run-of-the river and two reservoir impoundments (Brownlee Reservoir and Swan Falls Reservoir) was conducted in southwest Idaho. Results indicated that gradient differences in nitrogen, total solids concentrations and chlorophyll a were related to variations in mainstem flow volume and contributions of external sources. The large influx of organic loading and nutrients to a downstream reservoir was accompanied by depletion of oxygen levels and produced strong longitudinal gradients of water quality within the reservoir. Results were consistent with other studies of large linear reservoirs dominated by advection processes.
