Inhoud: This study measured the risk perceived at two points when search for a new dentist was begun, and at the time of the first vist and the change that occured between the two points. In addition, the importance of a variety of risk consequences and a variety of risk reduction techniques were measured and their impact upon the change in perceived risk during the search process was assessed. There does not appear to be a high level of perceived risk related to the selection of a new dentist. Further, the search process does not necessarily results in a reduction in perceived risk. About one half of the respondents reported such an experience. However, the findings suggest that level of perceived risk may be used as a basis for segmenting the dental services market.
