This article reports on a cross-sectional psychosocial study of 21 homosexual or bisexual male outpatients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and AIDS-related complex that measured the demographic characteristics, social support, self-esteem, mood state, and psychosocial needs as reported by the patients. The patients manifested a marked mood disturbance, and one-third reported low self-esteem. In addition, they reported diminished social interactions since the onset of their illness and profound illness-related psychosocial stress. |
