This bibliographic essay and research guide will be a chapter in a forthcoming title, Pre-Statehood Legal Research: A Guide to the 50 States, Including New York City and the District of Columbia, from The Haworth Information Press, an Imprint of The Haworth Press, Inc. It covers the legal history of the District of Columbia prior to the passage of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act in 1973. Part I is a chronological description of the various legal and political structures that created local law in the District during the pre-home rule era. Part II discusses the complex history of the court system in the District. Part III describes resources for researching the pre-home rule law and legal history of the District. |
