The authors present their perspective on changes in library-vendor relationships over die past two decades. It finds four basic changes in these relationships: the transformation of the legal publishing world; tighter budgets, but more choices of products in a variety of formats; increases in librarians' responsibilities; and, finally, the use of computers to manage library systems. The authors then discuss how these changes have impacted the William S. Hein & Company in its various roles as subscription agent, book jobber, publisher of book reprints, microform provider, and provider of online legal information. They conclude by analyzing what the future may hold for library vendors. |
