According to data collected by the University of Washington, gerontologic continuing educational needs have changed significantly over the past five years. Self-descriptive data collected on numerous occasions clearly indicate a professionalization of the field of aging both in educational background and job-related experience. Concomitant needs assessment and post-workshop evaluations reveal that the aging network has become interested in advanced skills-oriented learning at the expense of more general theoretical material. The authors outline their attempts to use an intensive interdisciplinary short-term workshop format to deliver the advanced skills training requested by these professionals, many of whom work with community-based frail elderly populations. |
