The purpose of this project was to educate adult caregivers with the knowledge and skills needed to provide basic home nursing care to elder family members. Participants attended five workship sessions which were taught by members of the nursing faculty of Villa Maria College. Theory, as well as stimulated laboratory practice experience of basic nursing skills, was incorporated into each session. Participants completed Palmore's Facts On Aging Quiz at the beginning of the first session and at the completion of the last session. The twenty-two participants who had attended all five sessions demonstrated a mean increase in scores. A two month follow-up telephone survey of the participants indicated that they majority of them had already incorporated knowledge/skills gained in the sessions in their care of an elderly person. |
