A two-year project was conducted to prepare 20 teachers from ten basic nursing schools to teach geriatric nursing. Pre- and post-project tests were administered to the project participants and a control group to measure attitudes, knowledge and professional contributions related to gerontology and geriatric nursing. Attitudes in both groups were highly positive and remained unchanged. Knowledge and professional contributions increased significantly, with over 30% of the variance explained by participation in the project. More years of experience in nursing and in geriatric nursing practice and teaching also had a limited impat on the scores. |
