A phenomological qualitative method was used. Data was gathered using the OSA interview guide. Data analysis involved reiterative, systematic analysis to determine categories and detailed descriptions of occupation and successful aging in relation to aging in place. Results. Several categories of long standing occupations that foster social connections and engagement with life were identified. These themes associated with successful aging were determined by analysis of the category data. The following themes of emotional attachment to the life long home were revealed: Home Sweet Home, the meaning of home; Saying Goodbye to the Old Home Place, the meaning of letting go of the home; and Making a Home Away from Home, reestablishing a home base for participation. These themes were related to the emotional attachment to the home. Discussion. This study found that environmental surroundings contribute to successful aging and contentment with life. Occupations provide meaning and are an intricate part of one's everyday life. Conclusion. The home is a place of long-standing occupations that provide meaning and purpose in life.
