Inhoud: The nursing home will always contain individuals who require individualized activities programming. Most often, these individuals will be those who are severely impaired in both cognitive and physical functioning areas. Music provides an excellent treatment medium for these individuals for a variety of reasons. Music sessions for these individuals can be presented through the use of tapes or live music. When possible, live music is preferred because of the increased possibilities for both personal interaction and spontaneity. Individual music visits should be structured, and should utilize goals and objectives for the individual's responses which are compatible with levels of functioning. Those residents who have exceptional music talent or training may also require individualized programming to provide challenges or encourage leadership roles.
