The geologic evolution and structure of eastern Asia during the Mesozoic and Cenozoic are re-examined and questioned by interpretations of some special features of the Chinese platform - diwa structures. Diwa structures are suggested as a third fundamental element of the earth's crust, in addition to platforms and geosynclines. Formed within platforms but not of platform type, the diwa tectonic regime developed on vast areas of central and southeast Asia, involving both old platforms and their shields, as well as zones of completed Paleozoic and Mesozoic folding. The diwa structure developed in a series of stages with qualitative changes in the features of sedimentation, maginatism and tectonic structure that were formed. -- IGR Staff. |
