This paper is the third in the series of eight (see IGR, v.5, nos. 11 and 12) interrelated papers in the symposium on landscape-geochemical studies in the Southern Urals which deals mainly with the determinations of the local geochemical background for Cu, Co, Ni, Ba, and other typomorphic metals of chalcopyritic ores, in the semi-arid steppe environments, in very complicated geochemical profiles involving effusives, the ancient weathered crust, Tertiary clays, and Quaternary deluvial clayey materials. The relatively high background is analyzed and interpreted in terms of the intricate and long geologic history of the landscapes where, among other things, certain anomalies in Tertiary clays may be expressed as weak dispersion trains in the overlying Quaternary deluvium unrelated genetically to the clays.
