Titel: Using Technology to Enhance Science Inquiry in an Outdoor Classroom
Auteur: Cantrell, Pamela
Knudson, Mark S.
Verschenen in: Computers in the schools
Paginering: Jaargang 23 (2006) nr. 1-2 pagina's 7-18
Jaar: 2006-07-21
Inhoud: Participants in a science professional development field experience were surveyed for their perceptions of the impacts of integrating a wireless local area network (WLAN), pocket PCs, and laptops as tools for enhancing science inquiry. Pocket PCs and laptops were used for data collection and analysis and for communication of research results to peers. Data were stored and disseminated via the WLAN using wireless adapters in the pocket PCs. A laptop provided the storage capacity and the base for a wireless access point and omni-directional antenna. While over half the participants reported positive attitudes about learning new technology, some reported that it interfered with their doing science inquiry. Others felt more training in advance of the field experience would have been beneficial. Those who used the technology as data collection tools reported the technology was vital to their research projects. Results of this study were incorporated into our plan for integrating technology into future field experiences in science inquiry.
