Although many community and junior colleges do not set out to collect rare materials, they may nonetheless be in possession of books that are rare and that should receive special care. The passage of time often turns once common materials into rare materials so that, as circulating collections age, certain books will inevitably become rare. This article addresses the issues of identifying, storing, handling, and providing access to rare materials in institutions without special collections departments. |
