The search for 'best practice' in libraries is a quest which has value of itself separate from the goal of devising better ways to give service. In this article, the author explores the concept and definition of best practice and how it relates to organizational concepts such as benchmarking, leadership, innovation and management of change. A project at Austin Community College is described which provided a valuable self-assessment for that institution and began the framework for 'best practice' as a management tool. |
