A sample drawn from the shelflist of a library is unlikely to be a good one for use in studies of item availability because it will overrepresent items that are at low and very low levels of demand, especially in large research libraries. The study reported compares the results of an availability study based on a shelflist sample with the results of one based on a sample of books known to have circulated in the recent past. |
