This paper will review the psychopharmacologic treatment of depression. It will critically review those studies that evaluated various psychotropic agents in the treatment of depression. Following that, clinical guidelines for the use of these drugs in the treatment of depression will be discussed. This paper, will be limited to a review of psychotropic drugs. The research on electroconvulsive therapy, other somatic therapies, and individual and group psychotherapies will not be discussed, as they are not relevant to the task of this paper. |
