The author proposes an alternative to the traditional forms of interlocking and noninterlocking study guides as originally developed by Herber and Cunningham and Shab-lock. The new form is based on modifications of the cloze technique and utilizes selective deletion patterns. Three different types of this “intralocking” study guide are illustrated with actual content material from student textbooks. Specific examples include the content guide, the structure guide, and the concept guide. The author's rationale underlying these instructional devices accompanies a detailed explanation of their construction and implementation. |
