The five-year analytic treatment of a troubled and troubling adolescent boy is described. Seth was a depressed and physically aggressive boy with perceptual learning disabilities. The analyst was a middle-aged man with an active style of therapy and a personal history that overlapped with some of Seth's issues. Working within a relational tradition (Altman et al., 2002; Santostefano, 2004), detailed process notes bring to the foreground Seth's demonizing introjections, the transference-countertransference matrix, enactments, mutuality, and intersubjective moments. The actual and embodied meanings of these occurrences is examined and contextualized.
