Titel: Intervention Strategies With Multiproblem Families: Part. A Structural-Functional Approach
Auteur: Bappert, Kathleen Gaskill
Verschenen in: Journal of community health nursing
Paginering: Jaargang 6 (1989) nr. 1 pagina's 25-29
Jaar: 1989-03-01
Inhoud: The structural-functional approach to dealing w/the multiproblem families is especially helpful when working with nontraditional and/or extended family structures. This sociological approach is described by Friedman (1981). The structural-functional approach is based on the assumption that families exist to perform certain functions for their members, which include: affective, socialization, health care, and coping functions. The ability of a family to perform these functions for their members is based on the soundness of the following structural components: role structure, power, communication patterns, and family values. A description of each structural component beginning with role structure is offered in the following sections. The nurse using this approach can assess the family with these components in mind.
