“Explosive” can be used to describe changes in the health care industry as the 20th century closes and the 21st century approaches. Every phase of health care is faced with new challenges and opportunities. Hospice programs will be a part of this revolution as health care services move from offering fewer acute-care admission days to providing more home-based services. This shift in service delivery areas will increase demands for more comprehensive, economical, quality care. Practice, documentation, and data-management systems are necessary for hospices to meet these changing demands. Patient classification systems have the ability to meet the needs of professional practice, client care, and financial responsibility by linking resource consumption with outcome-of-care criteria. |
