Presents a clinical description and a preliminary assessment of a case study. The effects of time-limited, family-based, cognitive-behavioral intervention for a preschool-age child who rejected the use of a gas mask during the Gulf War are reported. The parents utilized story reading, play, and cognitive-behavioral modification on the targeted noncompliance behaviors in the home within a 3-day period, which led to improvement. Implications of the findings for treatment of noncompliant preschoolers in emergency are discussed. |
