Titel: The self-concept and social adaptation of hyperactive children in adolescence
Auteur: Waddell, Kathleen J.
Verschenen in: Journal of clinical child and adolescent psychology
Paginering: Jaargang 13 (1984) nr. 1 pagina's 50-55
Jaar: 1984
Inhoud: This study examined the social adaptation of hyperactive children in adolescence. Incorporating standardized measures, hyperactives as adolescents (a group who had a history of medication for hyperactivity and a group, who did not) and a matched peer control group were compared on measures of self-concept and social adaptation. The results indicate that hyperactive children in adolescence continue to experience problems such as impulsivity and distractibility and describe themselves as more defensive, less confident, and more socially immature than do their peers. Differences are noted between adolescents who were medicated for hyperactivity and those who were not. Implications of these findings are discussed.
