Behavioral treatment of childhood trichotillomania a case study

Title: Behavioral treatment of childhood trichotillomania a case study
Author: Nelson, W. M.
Appeared in: Journal of clinical child and adolescent psychology
Paging: Volume 11 (1982) nr. 3 pages 227-230
Year: 1982
Contents: The two year compulsive hairpulling of a 7-year-old boy was treated using behavioral procedures which were implemented by the significant adults in his environment (mother and teacher). The undesired behavior was rapidly eliminated within several days and suppression of this habit was maintained during an eleven month follow-up period. The present case study is described as supporting Taylor's (1963) behavioral interpretation of obsessive-compulsive neurosis. In addition, the few behavioral interventions for trichotillomania which have been reported in the literature are discussed. Future research trends which are needed regarding trichotillomania are also presented.
