Inhoud: A method to reduce promptly the targeted aversive behaviors of two abused children was investigated. “Beat the Buzzer”;, a contingency management technique to regulate children's morning schedule and to reduce parent/child conflicts, was implemented by an abusive mother in the home following a functional analysis of parent/child disputes. A buzzer-timer was set each morning for a certain time by which the children were to have completed their morning preparation, and the children received rewards for being prepared within this time allotment. Multiple-baseline data recorded by the mother indicated a significant decrease in preparation time when the buzzer game was introduced for each child, and both parents expressed satisfaction with the program. Changes were maintained once tangible rewards were withdrawn, and no further suspected maltreatment was reported by the caseworker at one- and two-month follow-ups.
