The escalating numbers of people identified with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders has resulted in a corresponding increase in the demand for behavior specialists who can direct and conduct applied behavior analytic interventions. There are, however, severe shortages in professionals who can deliver quality services. In this article we describe the credentialing process and requirements of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®). University training is now available in numerous states through BACB-approved course sequences. The growth of the BACB, an illustration of a university-approved program, and implications for treatment programs are discussed. |
