In this essay, the intention is to show how in her attempts to redefine herself as a black woman in a society which has established categories of identification for blacks, Shirley Campbell's project intersects with other theories which emphasize cultural and racial politics, along with sexual politics. This is to say that while she embraces a broad feminist ideological position, she also undertakes a complex process which may be referred to as a feminist/womanist agenda as she is careful to give attention to the uniqueness of the socio-cultural context out of which she writes while drawing on different black theories, in her attempt to exercise power in her writing. |
