Factorial experiments are reported in which model scouring liquors were used to study the effects of the components of concentrated dag-wool scouring liquors on emulsion stability and sludge formation. Destabilization of the grease emulsion, which facilitated its removal by centrifuging, had little effect on the amount of sludge produced. The bulkiness of the sludge depended upon both organic components of the dirt and the polar components of the grease in the scouring liquor. |
