An experimental technique is described for determining the heat-transfer coefficient of polymeric fibres in a rapid-convective-heating system. The method involves the manufacture and mounting of butt-welded thermocouples of comparable size to the fibres under investigation and analysis of the thermocouple signals. A simplified theoretical basis is supported by results from a specific heating system. The range of application of the method to the heating of textile yarns is discussed. |
