With the use of electronic machines for counting blemishes in the yarn, a number of trash particles are shown to be counted as neps and thick places. These trash particles are identified as fragments of the cotton seed-coat with fibrous attachments. The seed-coat content in sliver is shown to correlate well with the Uster nep count and Classimat A faults. Data are reported on experiments that were conducted to confirm this finding. Complete removal of seed-coat fragments from a cotton is shown to lead to a near-nep-free carded yarn. |
