This paper examines the choice of directive and supportive intervention styles for Chinese-American compared to Anglo-American clients, in relation to the four dimensions of cultural value orientation distinguishing traditional Chinese values from mainstream American values: hierarchical versus egalitarian orientation to authority, external versus internal locus of control, controlled versus uninhibited expressiveness, and prescriptive versus autonomous role performance. |
