The Northern Ireland (NI) case study examined here offers us insights into how the media can involve children in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, as well as, how the quantity and quality of these efforts are influenced by contextual and institutional factors. The findings emerged from analyses of initiatives by producers, commissioning agents, and other supporters of the use of media to advance conflict resolution. The liberal, human relations ideology required of producers is analyzed along with the critique and approaches of two opposing schools of thought. The overall conclusion is that, collectively, there is a rich corpus available to assist young media consumers, their parents, and educators to understand a range of issues involved in the transition from confrontation to democratic, nonviolent management of social life should they decide to engage in such efforts.
