We study the possibility of using an optical fingerprint sensor as a health-monitor. When a finger is pressed against the sensor, blood inside the skin layers is squeezed away. The light scattered by the finger carries this information. We assume a conductor in a finger and finger deformation modulates the flow. Young's modulus of the conductor is regarded as a stiffness index. In experiment, we obtained this index from input actions performed by six volunteers. The correlation coefficient between the index and the average blood pressures was 0.83. Although the number of participants is small, this is an encouraging result. |
