Opencast mining needs excavation. This, in most cases, mixes the topsoil with subsoil and overburden materials. The excavated mass when occurs in dump, gets washed and losses its topsoii confxment. Even if any amount is retained, it looses its biolife due to occurring at this displaced place over years. This causes severe loss and hence scarcity of topsoil in mining areas This, aided by lowering of water table (due to mine water pumping) has caused extensive degraded lands in op-ancast mining areas. A techno-economically feasible procedure for greening this category of wastelands, without soil grafting has oeen reccmTended after thorough field experiment. |
