Inhoud: The advancement of computer technology continues at an ever increasing rate. Mine design and planning is an area which can be greatly enhanced by the use of many computer techniques. Work has therefore been directed by the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of Nottingham to develop a computer-aided mine design and planning system to enable research into the application of these techniques. The system, called NUmine, is micro-computer based and is designed to accomplish the complete range of processes relevant to the design and planning of a mining operation. One such process is computerised modelling and the authors have therefore developed a computerised modelling system known as NUmodel. The system employs some advanced new recursive model structures which, although based on a grid/block representation, combine the ability to handle geometric information. The NUmodel system, described in this paper, forms an integral part of the overall NUmine system. A case study is presented which uses NUmodel to provide an estimate of the reserves for a Middle-Eastern phosphate deposit
