Classical Geostatistics does not take into account the distribution of variables. For this reason, it is not an appropriate theory to apply to geosciences problems when data are highly skewed. Indicator Geostatistics works well for solving geometrical problems, but it is probably not well suited for grade estimation, as it allows for some violation of the fundamental principles of probability theory. Cumulative frequency methods have been used up to now only as one more mathematical technique. In this work, it is shown that the distribution function has a deep physical significance, as it is a particular case of the more general theory, which is Field Parametric Geostatistics (FPG). In this study, FPG is formulated in a logical way and it is shown to be a generalization of Classical Geostatistics and one that is also able to solve problems with highly skewed values. |
